Women in Engineering

The ASME India Women in Engineering (WiE) Interest Group, launched on 8 March 2025, envisions to narrow the gender disparity is STEM fields with women making less than 30 percent of the workforce in India. With a pronounced engineering gap, the interest group strongly advocates and encourages women to pursue engineering degrees as a critical first step towards increasing their representation in the workforce.

In the WiE interest group, we bring together students, academicians, researchers and industry professionals, a group that strives to create meaningful initiatives and programs that support career advancement, leadership development, and professional mentorship for women in engineering.

Through inclusive engagements such as competitions, panel discussions, hackathons and networking platforms, the interest group also seeks to encourage male advocacy and promote a more inclusive engineering ecosystem for women leaders and entrepreneurs.

At IMECE India 2026, the Women in Engineering interest group is curating a spotlight panel on the strategic pillars of energy, mobility, manufacturing and digitization that is shaping a sustainable future of India with a magnificent lens of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI).
